The Art of Self-Care

The problem that I tend to find with the perception of self-care is that it's often seen as a job or a chore. In some cases a hobby or even a trend. Taking away the intimacy of the process and turning it into another box on the list checked off. I truly believe self-care to be an art because just like art, it looks different for the person doing it. It also takes a great amount of discipline and time to create something that speaks to and works for you. It is not an easy and fast pace thing that can just be picked up and tossed to the side after just a day or so. Self-care is self-love and self-love is honoring both the good, beautiful parts and the bad, ugly parts of yourself. Learning from both sides and making improvements to your technique.

I mean it is very likely that down the line I will say that there is no art to self-care, that it's whatever you make it out to be or something to that effect. And that's ok because it part of the process, trial and error. It's ok not to get it right the first time, breaking bad habits is a hard thing to do and some habits might be easier to break than others.

As an actor I am taught that my body, my entire being, is something that should be cherished and taken care of because without it I would be able to do my work. Which I think is a lesson we all need to learn in the world because working till pure exhaustion and burnout is not it. It is no way live and no way to function. I know that is way easier said than done because of the way our society is run, trust me as a recovering workaholic I know how hard it is. Even now I still struggle with not treating self-care as a part of my job, and have to constantly remind myself that things like this will take some time and it's ok. Taking my time to take care of me is ok because it is my time and my body. Hopefully me documenting my journey and my discoveries will help you with yours 💜.
